QUARANTINE LIFE: SUNDAY THOUGHTS

US

What you refuse to comprehend, you suddenly despise
Limited exposure left a film over your eyes
Books you could be reading, sit and decorate your shelves
The first lie you hear, you believe; won’t educate yourselves
Not searching, so you’ll be informed, has rendered you a tool
Spooky, fear-based circles have reduced you to a fool

Narrow minded and shortsighted; so quick to discard
A masterpiece the hopeful view, and hold in high regard
You, steeped in superstition; moved by mediocrity
Behold a feast fit for a king and ask, “What did I see?”
So long oppressed you’ve envied and adopted every way
Of those happy your mentality is still that of a slave

Rhetoric designed to make you reject your true self
Is all you spew, until you value it, and nothing else
Anything you see that should fill your heart with great pride
Is scrutinized, and demonized, and worthless in your eyes
Robbed of your rich history, you reset where it starts
Erase your royal ancestry; retain conflicted hearts

The tragedy is clear, you see, you don’t know who you are
And what you know of long ago could barely fill a jar
With robotic precision, you discount your own creations
A malcontent, always bent to lower expectations
As long as you refuse to view the stories of your soul
Close your ears, and turn your back whenever they are told
But celebrate, and elevate a poisoned narrative
The recompense for ignorance will be a negative
