QUARANTINE LIFE: EATS

All year, I’ve hesitated to order ice cream. I didn’t want to be disappointed if it arrived melted, so I’ve stuck to Greek yogurt.

Pre-pandemic, I was a regular at 7-Eleven. It’s not that I can’t go, I just haven’t. Maybe it’s all of the videos of unhinged people looking for trouble with mask wearers, or those mathematically challenged where feet and inches are concerned. I haven’t been inside a store of any kind since early March. I haven’t even been to a gas station. After only two Art-related  trips out of the neighborhood, I still have a half tank of gas.

Last night while browsing on Amazon Fresh, I decided I wanted ice cream—not ice milk; not a frozen  dessert, but ice cream— specifically Haagen-Daz. I opted for a box of three vanilla, milk chocolate almond bars. As promised, they arrived this morning. Nothing I’ve ordered since the lockdown in March has arrived wrapped in swaddling clothes. Not even eggs have been treated with such hedge of protectionization. They were frozen and intact.

When these three are gone, I’m sure I’ll order some again. The way they were wrapped, I’m sure they would have survived all day on the porch.

There’s nothing like customer service and quality ingredients. There’s nothing like wanting something, even simple things, and being able to get it. I felt grateful as I put them away in the freezer, opting for a slice of Amazon watermelon instead.

Thanks Amazon Fresh. Happy 60th Anniversary, Haagen-Daz.
