TUESDAY THOUGHTS: POETRY PROMPT—SOCIAL MEDIA

COMMENTS ON MY WALL

For your friends, are my friends

And my friends, are your friends

The more we get together

The easier we forget that

Just rage, rant, rebut—

Do the most

So... before I let your “friend”

Who knows you so well

Drag you for filth

For the odd stuff you tell

And expose the hypocrisy

Of your new-found philosophy

I’ll swiftly delete your post

This, my friends is a nonsense-free zone

Take your wild debates down a tad

But my concern, as I recently learned

Is when your comments come off as mad

Or malicious, untrue, or combative

Do YOU think that I’m the only reader?

There are people here, who have zero fear

And in games of clapback?

They’re the leader.

And if they think you’ve crossed a line

They don’t even have to know you

And with choice words

And memes quite absurd

Tell you why YOU shouldn’t dare argue

Perhaps you’ve been waiting to tell someone off

Or bring them down a peg

Or show someone you’re more refined than they are

Or you have a pardon to beg

But you have to be careful who you come for

And how

You might get your face cracked

You’ve got old friends on here

Who are brimming with all of the deets

That others lacked

See, that Sea of Forgetfulness

That God won’t fish in

Is the site for deep-sea dives

Especially when those who knew you when

Want to show you that they’re still alive

So when you puff up

With self-righteousness, bigotry

Judgments, against others who

Are currently dealing with; struggling over

The same stuff that YOU used to do

You may want to remember

Those old “friends” of yours

Might just be my new “friends”, too

And while MY Mom taught me

To deal peacefully

Your friend’s filter may have lost a screw

And from that deep sea

They’ll emerge, gleefully

With receipts—more than a few

And while all are asleep

Visit MY wall, and under YOUR comment

Will ask, “Is this YOU?”

MONDAY THOUGHTS: TELEVISION

“Sometimes, the best way to understand someone else’s journey, is to get out of your own comfort zone.”
