QUARANTINE LIFE: THE DEFIANT ONES

You, driven by anxiety
Letting your guards down, can't you see
It's a tricky affair
By the time you're aware
It's a full-blown emergency
An asymptomatic carrier
Cares less about your barrier
Or your mask, or your gloves
It's your health that it loves
And it won't even have to try

Since you've decided you know best
Doctors and nurses and the rest
Who have spent their careers--
Even with their own fears
Sacrificing to keep you alive
Now have to work around the clock
With every guideline that you mock
Is another soul gone
It'll keep going on
All because you just won't stay inside

Why do you protest having life?
Name me a better sacrifice
Than to follow the wise
Get sleep out of your eyes
You can't go to the mall if you're dead
Why is it so hard to do your part?
What is the cause of your hardened heart?
What economy thrives
If no one is alive?
Don't be gullible now! Use your head!

Can't you discern the gibberish?
Follow a fool now if you wish
And a premature grave
Will be all that you gave
To your friends, who'll mourn you from afar
Please don't allow hate and silly greed
To cause you to conflate "want" and "need"
And throw caution aside
Only you can decide
To help flatten the curve where you are
