JUDGMENT
Yet, they know the destructive games they play
Will spark dis-ease across the land
Their legitimacy no longer stands
It’s clear— they do not care
Any righteousness they ever had, is now a laughing matter
They see themselves as gods
Giving and taking away what’s not theirs to disseminate
They become so confident in their own power
Every day and every hour, scheming to control the lives of others
As if liberty doesn’t matter
Disappointment’s everywhere
Equality is yet another casualty of their compromised state
Corruption abounds in their ranks, yet
They’re tasked to decide what’s best, needed, or fair
Motivated by selfishness, ignorance, and hate
They fill the air with lies, and deceive themselves
Oblivious to the consequences of the evil they’re heaping
Forgetting— the principle of sowing and reaping keeps all of its appointments
Their lives become consumed with the fights they start
They don’t understand why others won’t just accept less, or nothing at all
They want others to grovel and crawl, while they fatten themselves
They reap the benefits of the labor of others
Do they know they are sealing their own fate?
Sooner or later, the points they debate will indict them
They know they are wrong
But they’ve been taught for so long that others have no rights;
No humanity that they should respect
Too often, it’s in death that they reflect just how awful they’ve been
How the injustice they meted was, both, shame and sin
So they rewrite history
But the records of how they pillaged and stole
How they spent their lives making others’ lives difficult
Are ever present now
They look for forgiveness and conscience cleansing
From those whose legacies they sought to erase;
Who survived in spite of the tumult they placed and wove into every system
And they beg for the grace and mercy they never gave
Until the next generation comes of age, and learns the truth
