QUARANTINE LIFE: ART

I hadn’t painted in weeks. The two new sketches for paintings, that I’d done in early July, were still on my easel. I stared at them every day, but wasn’t sure which direction to go.

I put a 30”x40” canvas on my easel, then stared at it, too. “Just start painting”, I thought. “It’ll come”.

I thought I was done with the thoughts and prayers theme that spawned 5 new paintings in May and June. I suppose there’s so much to think and pray about these days: Covid variants, rising cases, public servants who don’t seem to care about the public, wildfires, floods, earthquakes, storms, school openings…

I suppose I’ll get to these eventually.

Reading, and watching world and local news can be overwhelming and disappointing these days. It almost seems like Mother Nature is mad, leaders are inept, humanity is unkind, and covid is here to stay. Focus on current events, too much, and it could be paralyzing. It could make a person think there’s no good news or hope to be found. Determine to look for it. Find and embrace the good. Appreciate the little things. Having a way to communicate whatever anxiety, sadness, frustration, or grief you may feel--that’s not destructive--is a good thing. Being grateful, is too.
