QUARANTINE LIFE: POETRY PROMPT: THE RALLY

Thousands invited, hundreds appear
But only if they would be paid
Oh, to have been a masked fly on the wall
When the grifter's plans were made

A sadder realization, is the willing complicity
Of those who ought to know better
Who forget their own history
Who for fame, fortune, or attention
Who bemoan the skin that they're in
Allow wolves to clothe them in strange garments
To applaud what they should not defend

For what cause would the foolish assemble
In defiance of all that is wise
Choose to join the sick and the dying?
In a few weeks they'll all realize
That the gamble was hardly worth taking
That if one must succumb on a hill
It should be one where Truth's roots run deeply
As opposed to the lies of a shill
