QUARANTINE LIFE: POETRY PROMPT: ODE TO THE PANDEMIC

It was supposed to disappear just like a miracle

Perhaps, the way that bleach eradicates a stain

It was the Flu's fraternal twin; nothing to see here

By now, only a faint remembrance should remain

But it's still here, and every day people are dying

While willful ignorance and lies take center stage

Some still don't care;

Still flaunt things as simple as masking

Wondering why, like others, we can't turn the page

"Don't let it scare you" say those who get world-class service

"You're not as vulnerable as experts say you are"

High profile players who were close, seem to have vanished

Those who had in-House status, worry from afar

Pink eyes and flies gave us a momentary chuckle

But what was sinister, was how those who knew well

That they were sick, didn't shut down, as recommended

But sought to spread to others, their own private hell

Leaders who could stem the tide, still turn a blind eye

Cushioned by riches; thinking, surely, they're exempt

From the destruction that's compounded by inaction

And the indictment sure to come as they attempt

To keep enshrined a system marred by gross injustice

And disregard of human life, and liberty

But like a karmic boomerang, the plague holds court now

Cancelling privilege, favor, and immunity

It is the great equalizer; it has no favorites

It's not political, as some think it must be

It bagged a host--one most dense, dangerous, and famous

Even it couldn't believe the irony
