QUARANTINE LIFE: POETRY PROMPT/MONDAY THOUGHTS

KNOWLEDGE

Are you better off because you never knew a thing

Or are you wishing someone smart and wise had told you?

Are you at a loss because of what you cannot do

Or do you wish that some proficient soul had shown you?

Are you standing idly by; listening as others share

Have you nothing to add to the conversation?

Does it seem you're missing basic things that life demands

Are you equipped and content in your situation?

Who closed the books?

Who blocked the paths?

Who set your hardened heart?

Who terrified you, and denied autonomy

To learn, research, explore; to study and think for yourself

To move beyond error and mediocrity?

What sound was silenced that you're only hearing of today;

That could have changed the very fabric of your being?

What do you know now, yet you're always poised to fight against?

What passed-down tale, or untruth hinders you from seeing?

What beauty gets trampled and tossed because it isn't yours?

What triggers stubbornness; what won't let you embrace

The joy, the laughter, and the value of what others share?

What willful ignorance left hatred in its place?

Beware that insecurity often fuels arrogance

Beware that fear often prompts many to repeat

The very tragedies and troubles of a prior age

Visiting upon children, the vices of the weak

Denying them the right to live rich, and abundant lives

To glean the knowledge that their eager minds will need

To have the empathy that comes when one is taught the truth

To have the courage to confront iniquity

To have the diligence to question, and know where to look

To find the answers that so many try to hide

Answers that could have made the difference between Hate and Love

That guarantee their better world won't be denied
