The one horrible thing you do
Erases all of the good you've done
The one loss you can't explain
Deletes all of the victories won
The one careless word you speak
Overshadows the wisdom you shared
The one wayward step you take
Negates all of the miles you've dared
Exactly how is one to go on
When the world is so void of grace?
How quickly do we forget
The past we no longer face.
How easily we rewrite
The flaws, the errors, the scars;
The bungling, blundering, trips, and falls
That make up who we are
How gleefully we hold up
Mirrors for others to look
At the pages on which their life stories lie
While we seal the content of our books
