QUARANTINE LIFE: MONDAY THOUGHTS

Old folks used to say, "Sweep around your own front door". Whether people make something your affair or not, I've learned from wise people that it's best to stay out of it. Taking sides demands more information than most of us every truly have. Our biases, preferences, history, experiences, and opinions get in the way, and kick objectivity to the curb.

When it comes to the personal business of others, you never really know the truth. All you have to go on is what you were told. When it's information you did not solicit, you have to wonder why it was shared. Timing is everything for people who are looking for allies. The curve ball that will smack you upside the head, however, is that they'll make up; they'll resolve or forget about the conflict. To your surprise, they'll be all lovey dovey tomorrow, acting like nothing happened, and you'll still be stressed out. They'll cuss YOU out for saying something against the person who they were ready to fight. You'll be left confused, and chewing on the opinion you should have kept to yourself.

It only takes one time for you to learn the lesson that minding your own business is an art rooted in peace preservation. You don't have to chime in. It doesn't mean you don't care. It doesn't mean you're cold, heartless, or unconcerned. It means that you are clear that what goes on behind closed doors can be tricky. Motives matter. You only think you know certain people, and even those you consider trustworthy, and the epitome of integrity are human, and therefore, quite capable of being wrong...and lying like a rug.

Save yourself. Stay out of it. Keep your mouth shut. Truth has a remarkable way of reveling itself without the assistance of your two cents.
