QUARANTINE LIFE: STAY AT HOME

Nearly 300,000 people needlessly gone. What’s great about that?

Remember when Ernest T. Bass came to Mayberry to join the Army? Turns out he just wanted a uniform so he could look the part, and impress a girl. Who told him that was a good idea? That’s how I envision this weekend— caravans of Ernest T. Bass types, mad at the world, insecure, looking for respect, always starting trouble with strangers, and showing up because they just want (or need) to be seen.

There are instigators who will sit back while others take the bait and fight—not for truth or justice— but perceived power. While keeping their hands clean, they have miseducated, lied to, and radicalized those who are incapable of seeing the irrationality of their words and behavior. The instigators could care less about the people they use. They’re dispensable and replaceable. (It is mind boggling how the people whose communities are seeing the greatest spikes in covid cases, are the ones fighting against protections.) The instigators just want chaos so they can distract from what they’re really up to.

Let the police watch the deluded and gullible stomp around looking the part; making noise and trying to be intimidating. Let them handle the wannabe soldiers when they cross the line. Pray for nurses who are being berated and mocked by the very people they're trying to save--patients who don't stop calling the virus that's ravaging their bodies a hoax until they're intubated.

The election is over. Stop trying to reason with people who are committed to ignorance, bigotry, and hatred. Assume that some people just don’t know any better.

Don’t disturb your peace or jeopardize your health and safety engaging the Ernest T’s of the world. Don’t be Barney. Put your bullet back in your shirt pocket. Skip the useless back and forth arguing. Stay safe. Stay at home.
