So...
CeCe Winans brought her own singers for her
performance on the cruise.
Wayne had given me sufficient assignments, (Kenny
Lattimore, Norman Brown, Gerald Albright, Bobby Caldwell, and the James Brown
Tribute) but singing with CeCe (even a single stanza of something) is still on my
bucket list (along with Lisa Fischer...)
I was so hoping that all of the
background singers (Lisa, Jason, Sol, Amber, Marqueal and me) would be assigned
to CeCe. Her singers, however, did not need any help.
I really did think of that
episode of "I Love Lucy" (where Lucy and Ethel tied up a dancer and
threw her in a closet at the Tropicana Club, so that Lucy couldn't dance with Ricky...lol).
It was sooooo great to hear CeCe's pure tones and sincere ministry, though. I'm
still humming,
“In the midnight hour, mercy was there"...
I could have used
my Capital Jazz credentials to get a seat, but I stood the whole time.
It was
worth it.
She was incredible.
I should have left my cabin earlier, but I
couldn't tear myself away from a Joel Osteen message:
"Why are you
limping?...Your location doesn't change your identity...God is looking for you
to heal you, bless you, make you whole again...Even when you can't get there by
yourself, God will have someone to carry you.
He loves you too much to leave you
alone..."
I ended up being glad I'd stood for the concert.
When I saw Rachelle Ferrell
walking toward me, I started to cry.
I was so glad to be able to tell her how
much I admired her gift.
I'd wanted to ever since my little sister brought a
demo home from Japan, and I heard "Peace on Earth" for the first time.
She was so gracious and encouraging.
I love great voices.
There's something inspiring and
healing about them. Cece. Rachelle..and the cruise ended with Chaka Khan.
I stood for her concert, too.
