SUNDAY THOUGHTS : OPPORTUNITIES

Motives matter.

In order to gain opportunities, it’s okay to be ambitious and assertive, but not slimy. You don’t have to drop names, lie, con, cheat, pad your resume, fabricate non-existent relationships, imply collaborations, malign others, embellish connections, or sneakily align yourself with anyone’s unsuspecting friends, family, or associates. No such schemes are necessary.

If you have no authentic working or personal relationship with someone, take their name out of your mouth. It’s neither helping, nor impressing the way you think, no matter how respected they are.

Be you. Be honest. Move with integrity. Let your skill and body of work speak for you.

Be careful cozying up to well-connected people who you think are gullible or uninformed. Sometimes, people know more about you than you think, but will still give you a chance. Dont get cocky, or too familiar. Not every platform will continue to hold you.

Showing discerning people who you are, will make them believe you, without asking questions, being warned, or doing research.

Don’t let YOU, your arrogance, or your big mouth, be the reason that doors close, and access is denied. Don’t be the cause that your efforts fail, no matter how well-intentioned they may be. The credible coattail you’ve been riding on won’t slip, fray, or throw you for a loop, if you’re riding with permission. The story you tell won’t unravel, if it’s true.

Let your work speak, and if your reputation is as good, that’s a bonus.
