FRIDAY THOUGHTS

Hammering noise woke me up, again, this morning, but I acknowledged the wonderful fact that I did wake up. I was able to get up, and walk to the window to see who was reenacting the building of Noah’s ark, or performing “If I Had a Hammer”.

I was also able to witness the beautiful sky. It all made me more determined to go and pay my respects to a former coworker who’d passed.

While listening to the radio, on the way, I heard an exchange between a congressman and an activist that struck me so hard, it was as if he’d spoken his damning words to me. I don’t even know the woman, who I desperately wanted to offer an apology, for words I didn’t even say.

What is happening? Why are people so proud of being nasty, rude, mean spirited, and so reckless with their words? Is someone passing out points and prizes? People keep insisting “this isn’t who we are”, and “we’re better than that”, but ARE we?

On the way back, I wondered what was being sprayed from a utility truck. Was it harmless water, fertilizer, or a dangerous pesticide? My windows were up, but I worried about people who were walking, at bus stops, or who’d chosen not to use their car’s AC. They, without warning nor their consent, were exposed.

So much is being spewed into the atmosphere— harsh words, crazy theories, unfounded stories, lies, unwarranted criticism, cruel pronouncements, and hateful narratives.

It’s hard not to be affected by it, or even tempted to fight against it, as the wind carries it. There’s just so much.

There’s something about gratitude, though, and hopefulness, that keeps a smile on your face, no matter what’s going on.
