Common knowledge isn’t always common. Some dots are never connected. There’s no crime, though, in being unaware. How are you supposed to know?
Not knowing, is ONE thing. Being misinformed, redirected, or discouraged from learning, finding out, and experiencing, is ANOTHER.
Don’t assume what others ought to know, or that they are more knowledgeable than you. Nothing is stopping you from seeking reliable sources. Sometimes, you don’t know, and “you have not, because you ask not”.
Once you DO know, however—once you have accurate information, AND access, don’t waste time in regret, or try to recoup lost opportunities. Just make good use of the knowledge you gain, reconsider from what sources you get your information, and endeavor, going forward, to think and act for yourself.
Perhaps, it’s not that you didn’t ask. You just asked the wrong person, whose evasiveness, blocking, and tendency to hoard information, was intentional.
