QUARANTINE LIFE: POETRY PROMPT---TODAY

TODAY

Your past has been your biggest foe

But now it’s time to let it go

The narrative you’ve spun so well

Is not the tale that others tell

Perhaps it is long overdue

To see what others see in you

Give yourself the grace you give

Existing’s fine, but why not live?

The things that you see others do

You tell yourself, that’s not for you

So now, you hide yourself away

But that stops now, it stops today

Just how long will you be afraid?

Look at the progress you have made

Consider all that’s in your hands

It more than covers life’s demands

The hope is that you’ll live in fear

Wasting the time that you have here

Time to arise, and live again

This is your start, hardly your end

The time to guess, and speculate

Leaves little time to mitigate

The things that you know to be true

There’s so much good out there for you

Get up now; take a look around

There’s so much wonder to be found

So much to keep you in a state

Of thankfulness that your own fate

Was not the likes of others who

Wish they could trade places with you

Today should be your closest friend

It’s all you have for now, but then

Should today become your past

Let fondness be the gaze you cast
