QUARANTINE LIFE: TUESDAY THOUGHTS

It’s wonderful when business goes smoothly, and people operate with integrity. That should be the rule, not the exception.

Do right by the people you enlist to work for you. Don’t abuse their kindness, willingness to assist, or generosity. Respect the livelihoods of others. Everything can’t be a hookup, favor, or freebie.

After the job is done, pay your employees. Don’t miraculously convert them to volunteers. Don’t cheat, shortchange, or ghost them. Pay equitably. Don’t poor-mouth when you call on person A, but break your neck to handsomely pay person B for the same services. People DO compare notes.

Remember how you blew up their phones and inboxes BEFORE, up to, and even ON the designated day? Keep that same energy when it’s time to write that check—in full and on time. There are too many alternative ways to compensate people these days for employees to have to deal with shenanigans and excuses.

When someone says “yes” to your request, they’ve made you and your date, project, job, or event a priority. They’ve said “no” to someone else who perhaps would have treated them with greater courtesy. Don’t make them regret dealing with you. Don’t  mishandle their funds, assume/decide they don’t need it right away, or treat them as if they owe you their time, talent, or resources.

“Do unto others…”

Remember that?

Apply it.
