QUARANTINE LIFE: POETRY PROMPT---DISCRETION

DISCRETION

Perhaps, an accidental drop from lofty heights
Carried by random gusts, or changes in the air
Disseminated to wet nosy appetites
Now littering the streets— Because you put it there

When the streets are swept,
Will landfills be its plight?
Or will it be recycled;
Used at someone's whim?
Will it be picked up;
Catching you dead to rights?
Displayed to ridicule
The trouble that you're in?

Will empathy or sympathy even abound--
Or bewilderment over your lack of sense?
Will understanding or compassion soon be found?
Or will discerning listeners see through your intent?

What motivation prompted you to let it go?
What lack of wisdom said their ears would even care?
What was it that you really wanted them to know?
And now, it's all over because you put it there

Was it manipulation meant for them to act?
Are there characters you'd like them to compare?
Is there a side you're hoping they'll consider fact?
What is the expectation, now that they're aware?

A wordy pattern has emerged for all to see
That's always displayed when your back's against a wall
Gullible enablers grant impunity
Never vetting if what you say, is true at all

How duped are they, who always hurry to your side,
And then enlist help to defeat your enemies?
Only to find themselves embroiled in homicide
Because they lapped up what you scattered in the streets?

Perhaps it's time to stop, and think of all you've done
Perhaps your heart and mind is in need of repair
This time, your narrative will not fool anyone
But be trampled
All because YOU put it there
