QUARANTINE LIFE: FIRST SNOW

It’s so beautiful today. I can hardly stand it. I was busy editing a new Shutterfly book, and hadn’t looked outside. A little after 10 AM there was a brief power outage, so I got up and headed to my window. “I wonder if it…” My thought was interrupted as I opened the blinds. It had snowed. A lot. No wonder I hadn’t needed to turn on a light.

My mind drifted back to childhood. I laughed at the thought of going outside period, let alone to make a snowman.

I don’t recall school ever being closed for snow days. I do recall everyone sliding down the hill (on government issued black vinyl bookbags); screaming all the way, and being greeted at school by teachers bearing bundles of brown paper towels, who helped everyone get out of wet coats, hats, gloves, rubber boots and scarves. If someone arrived poorly dressed for the weather, they didn’t leave that way.

Something happened when we stopped treating teachers like the surrogate parents they are, and started treating students like numbers and clients…anyhoo…

On another note, somebody could have at least given President Biden a hat today. Sheesh. Secret Service members were out there freezing, too. I could almost hear my mother say, “You can be cute if you want to. It’s January. You need something on your head”.

I have a feeling my phone’s camera  is going to get a workout today.🙂
