QUARANTINE LIFE: EATS

Sometimes, when you’re wondering what you want to eat, you realize that a sandwich will suffice.
Didn’t it always hit the spot when you were a kid? I recall having a sandwich in my lunch box every day of elementary school, along with a piece of fruit, a canned drink, and something from a Frito-Lay assortment pack. When did sandwiches not constitute a full, real, nourishing meal? Today, I decided to make my sandwich as if I were at a restaurant or deli. Even when you’re preparing food for yourself, presentation can still matter.

I still haven’t been inside a grocery store since the pandemic began, but Amazon Fresh hasn’t let me down yet.

The sandwich:

Arnold whole grains wheat bread, toasted

Hillshire Farms ultra thin sliced, smoked ham and turkey

Taylor Farms Italian blend lettuce

Ken’s honey mustard dressing

Heinz white vinegar

Garlic powder

Black Pepper

Happy Belly Kosher Dill pickle sandwich slices

Vlasic Sweet relish

To wash it down, I made a smoothie with lime juice, grape juice, pineapple slices, and the last of the watermelon I’d frozen in ziploc bags. A little lime Bubly sparkling water gave it a little fizz.

Sometimes, you don’t feel like cooking…and you don’t have to. There have been quite a few days like that throughout the year, but a sandwich requires minimal effort…and the cooler weather is suggesting I should add soups to my next grocery list.🙂
