QUARANTINE LIFE: POETRY PROMPT: ANGRY

Their faces marred and strained

Sinister smiles; consciences stained

What a pitiful army

Coddled and smarmy

Whose wretched sons are they?

So eager to repeat history's shame

Insecure, in search of strength

Appalled when, at their feet lies blame

Unsure what insurrection meant

Whose cause is neither just, nor real

Whose general cares nothing of their plight

And even less of how they feel

Yet they blindly follow

In trumped-up victimhood they wallow

Risking their health and lives

Clinging to theories neither wise, nor real

Their rage is exposed

In warped thought, and wild eyes

Their ignorance and bigotry exposed

Ever shouting, "Stop the steal!"

They stomp and scream

Hoping others fear their threats

Fearful they’ll lose what others get

Delighting in the cries of strangers

Their own reputations in danger

Why are they so angry?

What disconnect at mother's breast

What rejection at father's knee

Has fueled their sick philosophy

Sowing discord is what they crave

Evil imparts how they behave

Is delusion in their veins?

Void of empathy, what remains?

Why are they so angry?

The hatred they've been taught

The bitterness consumed

Has become a cancer; ravaging

They no longer hear the truth;

Believe every mad thought

Can’t see their error as they ought

Abandon the peace they could enjoy

Their privilege waits to deploy

Embracing every plot and ploy

To terrorize those unlike them

Demonize the innocent

Lie and cheat until they’re spent

Don't they know this is costing them?

Why are they so angry?
