QUARANTINE LIFE: THE LIGHT

“For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all.”
~Luke 8:17

Groupthink, tradition, and those who are complicit—dead or alive—will demand that they remain silent, but I imagine that a well-made biopic vindicated and freed a lot of people last night— men and women.

The music was a character, too
It served to justify and drown out dysfunction and abuse.
Hurt people hurt others, and we overlook the pain, and celebrate any good that emerges. In doing so, we sanction the hurt, glorify it, and deem it necessary for success.

We listeners have the benefit of an incredible body of music, but bore none of the pain it took to make it.
We wonder how much things have changed, and how much progress has been made in America, and note that the mainstream media, Hollywood, and social media are merely exposing secrets, beliefs, habits, and practices that have never been questioned, corrected, prohibited, nor prosecuted.

The same goes for the church.
For many people, “back in the day”, with its faulty, oppressive doctrine, is NOW.
Some things have not changed.
They’ve merely been transferred from generation to another, new generation of people who don’t know any better, are too invested, don’t study, or too afraid to challenge what they see and hear.

Perhaps we’ll hear and see more stories, as a result of the Clark’s transparency.
Now is as good a time as any to soberly consider how we’ve been “doing” church, if it’s all a show, and whether more people have been mishandled, discouraged, wounded, manipulated, and broken, than healed.
