FRIDAY THOUGHTS: POETRY PROMPT --HISTORY'S REPLY

HISTORY’S REPLY

You will never succeed

Try your best, but believe

You will ruin yourself

Trying to erase me

You think you’re in control

Brag, as your plans unfold

Freeze me out

But you’d better prepare for the cold

Every trap that you set

To leave my needs unmet

You should bait with your faves

Failure’s all that you’ll get

Aren’t you tired by now

Trying to break me down?

It’s taking its toll

I’ll always be around

Day and night, schemes you brew

Power motivates you

But cowardice shines

Insecurity, too

Hate takes great energy

Every day you decrease

Strip years off your life

Trying to destroy me

Grace is waiting for you

To stop the things you do

It won’t be patient long

Will run out in a few

It’s a shame— you have much

You could have peace, and such

Instead, you seem obsessed

With everything I touch

Perhaps, my pity’s lost

My compassion’s been tossed

I’ll just sit back, and watch

While your soul pays the cost

Hoping I’ll go away

For no cause I can see

Except shame has you bound

Truth is your enemy
