A stranger asked me long ago
"Why this, why here, why now?"
The sentiments, a friend echoed
"What's this ease all about?"
I'd had the conversation, too
"Have you just settled now?
What do you really want to do
Do you remember how?
That thought that lingered yesterday--
Can’t wait ‘til you’re awake
To ask, “Why did you let it go?
Do you think it’s too late?"
Every morning looked the same
Fear always taking lead
Each day, so many open doors
Doubt always spoke to me,
"You're not a youngster anymore
You should have done that then
Too late to dream those dreams of yours
Think of what could have been
Leave that for them to do
Face it--it's much too late for you
Just practice your applause
Your smile
Forget anything new."
Have you those conversations, too?
Aren't you a little mad?
You've let them get the best of you
Lose life you could have had
But wait, you're listening, so that means
There's time to put away
The painful and the doubtful things
That keep your joy at bay;
That keep you stuck in places you don't really want to be
It's not too late for you, my friend
I feel the same for me
It's not too late
Never too late
There's still life left today
Much more to give,
Much more to share
And even more to say
It's never too late,
It's not too late
Don't sink your own ship—sail!
Don't dig your own grave; bow out
Waste time wondering if you'll fail
It's not too late
Be kinder to yourself
Let courage in
Don’t stage a premature end
Where joy and hope begin
It's never too late
It’s not too late
There's still life left today
Much more to give,
Much more to share
And even more to say
