THURSDAY THOUGHTS: POETRY PROMPT—MICROAGGRESSION?

There's always someone bent on wrecking special moments in time

There's always someone fiercely angling for your peace of mind

There's always someone pushing, poking--wishing you would just break

There's always someone hoping there's a public misstep you’ll make

There’s always someone quick to say, “I was just doing my job.”

There’s always someone daft and clueless of the joy that they rob

There's always someone itching to judge you for something you did

There's always someone throwing rocks from hands that they've always hid

There's always someone waiting to say, "See! I told you so!"

There's always someone justifying the things they do, you know

There's always someone starting stuff, but they cannot take a hit

There's always someone biting—hard—but they don't like getting bit

There's always someone needing to police things that you do

There's always someone who forgets, you still know all that you knew

There's always someone intent on bringing you down a peg

There's always someone bragging that they pushed you over the edge

There's always a choice to make--don't think options are gone

There’s always a stance; a principle to stand upon

You can mute, or use the current platform that you're on

To let that someone know you’re neither pushover, nor pawn

There are things that folk will say, no matter which path you choose

If you take the high or low road, what do you have to lose?

Not problematic, nor dramatic--no horror stories with you

But imps forget, and then regret seeing you’ve a flip side, too

Sometimes, disrespect persists, 'cause no one had nerve to say

It’s rude, wrong, inappropriate; it’s just not okay

Sometimes you have to tell line-crossers, as quick as you can

You see the nonsense that they're up to, and you won't let it stand

Sometimes, you have to take the time to boldly speak for yourself

Perhaps they'll think, before they underestimate someone else
