An image hastily sketched to fill an empty frame
Conjured up fond memories, too numerous to name
Each one more joyful than the next
Left me so eager to express
My gratitude for being blessed
To raise a thoughtful child
To see the woman she's become
I can't imagine anyone
More fortunate than me
Though many know the sacrifice
The hopes, the fears, the sleepless nights
The prayers, the plans, the pain
It all fades like a mist when you
Consider all that you must do
In spite of all that faces you
To keep your children safe
And then, one day, the tables turn
Their wisdom flows, and then you learn
Your efforts weren't in vain
Across from you sits an adult
A living, breathing, grand result
Not wayward, crass, or difficult
Not brimming with disdain
But lovely, gracious, smart, and fair
Hospitable, and quite aware
Respectful, and eager to share
Precious moments with you
My heart rejoices every time
I see her smiling face, and I
Am grateful as before
That in this world, a part of me
Is caring, shining gracefully
Making her mark so brilliantly
I could not ask for more
