Why should I be any other way?
Why be saddled with fake pleasantries and drivel?
Why fear saying what I truly want to say?
There's a level of kindness I’ll show everyone
Just because they’ve a pulse that I detect
Neither status, clout, nor fame,
Nor an often-dropped name
Has any bearing on who I will respect
But when it comes to granting access, space, or time
There’s a boundary that surely must be laid
I know now, more than ever, how I value joy, and treasure
The peaceful, safe haven I have made
There are some things that simply aren't worth entertaining
Things meant to distract; magnify what matters least
Discernment comes to shine a light on every nuisance
And remind me, "Don't engage. Preserve your peace".
