An award given in an antagonistic spirit of cronyism, spite, hypocrisy, and exclusion, as opposed to integrity, truth, and excellence, isn’t an honor at all. It cheapens the award, casts doubt on the process, and diminishes the credibility of the decision makers. The joke is forever on the deluded, or willingly manipulated recipient. The attention, however, will be forever on those who, honest, objective observers agree, were much more deserving.
