POETRY PROMPT: SLIPPING AWAY

Why is it so damned difficult
Why so much death and pain?
Exactly when is the right time
For equality to reign?

Once again, something’s brewing
It’s making others mad
They can’t imagine losing
The advantages they’ve had

Who would be upset
To see Justice today?
One who can’t bear their privilege
Is slipping away

They’re losing their collective minds
They’re losing control
Their hardened hearts are revealed
Their rhetoric exposed

There’s nowhere to hide now
Not even their own
Are backing their madness
Or matching their tone

Who would be offended
To see Love today?
One who fears their privilege
Is slipping away

Now we’re seeing the big guns
Bullies tried it before
But this new generation
Isn’t scared like before
They’ve been marching for days now
It’s a grand sight to see
They know if they don’t speak up
They’ll never know liberty

Who would be troubled
To see Passion today?
One who complains their privilege
Is slipping away

They don’t know what to do now
Now, the whole world can see
Blatant, systemic evil
In the Land of the Free

Everywhere, minds are changing
Eyes once closed, are no more
Every day conversations
No one dared have before

Who would be outraged
To see Hope today?
One who knows their privilege
Is slipping away
