We’re desperate now, it seems that you have caught us
For centuries we’ve managed to succeed
Painting a dangerous, violent picture
Of those we have determined shouldn’t be
We’ve visited our hatred on our children
But their children seem less apt to embrace
The sickness in our souls that twists our thinking
The bigotry they see as a disgrace
We’ve had a decent run, but now it’s ending
In our last ditch effort to defend
We have to make you see that we’re not evil
We have no crimes for which to make amends
Yes, we kill, but please know there’s a reason
Our fear of Blackness has us overwhelmed
We long for days when people could own people
We’re losing ground, as far as we can tell
Our hatred has been fueled by our ignorance
We’ve lost the will to see how wrong we are
We’ve taken to acting as vigilantes
Unhinged, we look for reasons to wage war
For any reason we seek out a target
We decide who should exist or die
There was a time when we would go unnoticed
But now, the world sits stunned, with open eyes
Now the world sees our mode of destruction
Wonders of the deaths it hasn’t seen
Wonders how we’ve always escaped justice
Wonders why no one has intervened
Now, the world sees who has been complicit
Nowhere to hide; we’re in viral spotlight
Finally, we’ll face the justice system
This time, it will be much harder to fight
We can no longer hide behind our privilege
Our crimes have been broadcast for all to see
We have to find a way to spin the story
We have to justify brutality
We have to make you think that they deserved it
It’s why we search so desperately to find
Even the most menial indiscretion
In hopes that you’ll unsee, and change your mind
Remove the focus from our damning action
Divert attention from the evil act
Blame the victim’s life for why it ended
While keeping killer’s legacies intact
We have no shame in how we dig and scour
To reveal whatever we can use
To tarnish every dead man’s reputation
To murder, slander, damage, and accuse
Expect us to leave no stone undisturbed, now
We have to make you think ill of the dead
Our hope is, you’ll forget how they were murdered
And think we saved society instead
