SATURDAY THOUGHTS: ASK

Give others the right to make decisions regarding themselves.
Don't assume.
Don't presume.
Don't guess.
Don't dance, or tiptoe around the source.
Go to them.

Want to know what someone thinks, feels, said, or wants? Ask them.

Your ideas, wishes, and plans--as admirable or well meaning as they may be, may not be enthusiastically embraced.
Don't be afraid or intimidated.
Don't be so consumed by the thought of the rejection of your agenda, that you push it without considering how it will impact others.

Knowledge is power.
The truth you learn, will make all the difference in how you proceed--or stop.

WEDNESDAY THOUGHTS: KEEP MOVING

I thought the plan that was proposed, was extremely generous, but unnecessary.
Now I see more clearly why it was implemented. Someone is righting a very old wrong, while someone else is eating crow.

I admire those who are neither afraid, nor intimidated to set records straight, even if it means a decline in their own popularity or position.

Speaking truth shouldn't be a liability, but some people are so invested in false narratives, that the truth is unbearable. It would require a drastic altering of their routines, or a reevaluation of the strength of particular relationships.

Some people can foresee problems that you don't want to consider.
You'd like to think that people are wrong in their estimation of others, but when they're not, it can be painful to admit that they are right.
You hate to think the worst of people, but when they demonstrate a history of selfishness, insecurity, vindictiveness and greed, you have to face it it, --and be happy that someone who DID see it, is looking out for you.

Some people know exactly what they're talking about. You KNOW it, and you hate it.
Wisdom, discernment, truth, and experience are on their side.
The words of the wise aren't always welcome, nor always easy to swallow, but they're right
Don't reject them. Embrace the heck out of them. Learn from them.

What someone could have done, or should have done is of no consequence after the fact.
Don't assume that the good that YOU would have done concerning THEM, will ever be a factor in their behavior.
"Oh, I didn't know",
"I forgot",
"I didn't think about it", and
"I didn't think you would have been interested" are among the biggest lies ever told.

There's a reason why people delay.
Maybe you would like to have gone.
Maybe you could have done it.
Maybe your input would have made a difference.

If there's still time--if the opportunity presents itself again, don't conclude that you can't
Ask yourself if you really WANT to.
There are ways to get where you need, or want to go, and do what you want to do.
You always have a choice.
You can sidestep the monkey wrenches and stumbling blocks that others throw in your path, and keep moving--if you want to.

Stop pouting and get going, if that's your desire. Selfishness and thoughtlessness, on the part of others, doesn't ever have to cripple you.
It may be the most cliche or all cliches, but what God has for you, really is for you, and he'll make sure you get it.

God is always watching to see whether you will honor Him.
Don't let Him down--no matter what others do.

WEDNESDAY THOUGHTS: INSPIRED

So...
CeCe Winans brought her own singers for her performance on the cruise.

Wayne had given me sufficient assignments, (Kenny Lattimore, Norman Brown, Gerald Albright, Bobby Caldwell, and the James Brown Tribute) but singing with CeCe (even a single stanza of something) is still on my bucket list (along with Lisa Fischer...)

I was so hoping that all of the background singers (Lisa, Jason, Sol, Amber, Marqueal and me) would be assigned to CeCe. Her singers, however, did not need any help.

I really did think of that episode of "I Love Lucy" (where Lucy and Ethel tied up a dancer and threw her in a closet at the Tropicana Club, so that Lucy couldn't dance with Ricky...lol).

It was sooooo great to hear CeCe's pure tones and sincere ministry, though. I'm still humming,
“In the midnight hour, mercy was there"...
I could have used my Capital Jazz credentials to get a seat, but I stood the whole time.
It was worth it.
She was incredible.

I should have left my cabin earlier, but I couldn't tear myself away from a Joel Osteen message:
"Why are you limping?...Your location doesn't change your identity...God is looking for you to heal you, bless you, make you whole again...Even when you can't get there by yourself, God will have someone to carry you.
He loves you too much to leave you alone..."

I ended up being glad I'd stood for the concert.
When I saw Rachelle Ferrell walking toward me, I started to cry.
I was so glad to be able to tell her how much I admired her gift.
I'd wanted to ever since my little sister brought a demo home from Japan, and I heard "Peace on Earth" for the first time.
She was so gracious and encouraging.

I love great voices.
There's something inspiring and healing about them. Cece. Rachelle..and the cruise ended with Chaka Khan.

I stood for her concert, too.

TUESDAY THOUGHTS: POETRY PROMPT---OPEN A WINDOW

Worried about the sound that it will make?
If you push too hard, or touch it
Will it break?
Is there someone waiting to hear an alarm?
Why should something ordinary bring you harm?

If you were free
You'd open a window
Air out the space you're in
And feel the breeze
If you were free
You'd open a window
Invite the Sun
Commune as one
No need to ask, or fear
Do as you please

It shouldn't take so long to feel at home
It's hard to thrive in spaces not your own
You make the best of it, and find your voice
Remembering, it's you who made the choice

If you were free
You'd open a window
Air out the space you're in
And feel the breeze
If you were free
You'd open a window
Invite the Sun
Commune as one
No need to ask, or fear
Do as you please

Is it in your mind
Or is it real?
Is there a reason why you feel the way you feel?
Just see what happens
Fling it open
See there's nothing there to fear
All of that wasted time in darkness
It's okay, today is here

If you were free
You'd open a window
Air out the space you're in
And feel the breeze
If you were free
You'd open a window
Invite the Sun
Commune as one
No need to ask, or fear
Do as you please

STAY FOCUSED

While watching the debate, it occurred to me that some things and people are deliberately, but unwisely planted distractions. They just want to be in the mix. They could be a positive force if they weren't so bent on being antagonistic--and if their antagonism wasn't encouraged so much that it snowballs into arrogance. They will exalt themselves, or others will foolishly inflate them, so that what they offer only appears to be critical. They're merely in place to keep you from paying attention to what really matters. Yes. They are a complete nuisance. They are busy. That's all. But someone has given them access, so like a crackhead mosquito, they're all over the place. Wasted is the time you give to them. You should be amused, not mad or fretful. They're planted in the hopes that you will become so frustrated by their antics, that you will either become disillusioned with the process, fail to participate, blow your own opportunity, or abandon your appointed place in a thing altogether. What should shut them down won't, because it has a stake in the busyness. (People will find it is difficult to kill the monsters they have created, but have no difficulty expecting, even demanding others to deal with them.)
The principal thing is in danger of losing its integrity, focus, appeal, ease and flow when access and authority is granted to the frivolous thing. Focus is lost when the frivolous thing gets the big head and is given permission to run amok. What will and does swiftly shut the frivolous mosquito down, is someone who is invested in the execution, reputation, and preservation of, and respect for the principal thing--and it may only take a few, soberly spoken words.
