Those who wage war— do they sleep?
Those who live to destroy— do they rest?
Is there ever a time when they lay down their hate
And think, what one feeds, one will ingest?
Those who love strife— do they tire?
Those who so abhor peace— do they think
That their campaigns and unction
To sow grief and dysfunction
Won’t soon poison the water they drink?
Those who cheat and lie—do they know
Those who’ve had enough are not weak?
And, although it seems Justice is slow and evasive
Mercy won’t be around when She speaks?
Grace is amazing, we sing
But will patience always abound?
How indifferent are we
To the suffering we see?
At our turn, will compassion be found?
