QUARANTINE LIFE: POETRY PROMPT ---REPRESENTATION

REPRESENTATION

Anybody noticing the pattern?

Of course, the tropes have long since been cemented

How certain folks are often represented

Makes you wonder if it happens purposely

Can’t have them boasting class, or education

The basest, and the crudest in the nation

The least refined in every situation

On platforms where they really shouldn’t be

When an opportunity’s presented

To change the narrative, and up the ante

To show the world how versatile we can be

The perceived exception seems to terrify

Incompetence and ignorance are reigning

Glorifying foolishness in-training

Putting best feet forward, slowly waning

The absurdity of it all makes you cry

Who thinks worst is the best we have to offer?

Perhaps, it’s all the insecure can handle

The thought of competence, makes them all scramble

To find an eager patsy to control

A fool who’s being used, won’t think he is one

Will shuck, and jive, and dance, and pick the cotton

Daily, ever racing to the bottom

And slowly shedding pieces of his soul

To know what qualifies, you have to see it

Propping up mediocrity is needed

Only by those who have always succeeded

In convincing others, greatness can’t be found

Fortunately, the pattern’s only fooled some

When the tropes fail, and are no longer useful

To the curb they’re kicked

Isn’t it awful?

When no one’s in your corner who is truthful?

Who’ll help you keep your two feet on the ground?
