QUARANTINE LIFE: POETRY PROMPT---THE CON

He cashed in on your hate
Don't think he won't turn in revenge
High ranking cowards quit in haste
Loyal disciples now unhinged
Waging war with imaginary enemies
Concocted by sly, talking heads
Did you shun sick conspiracies?
No.
You lapped up lies instead

How deep your gullibility?
Open your eyes and see the truth
No pardon; no immunity
The good ol' boys were using you
It's best you jump this sinking ship
While you still have time to swim
Away from the strongman's grip
Still can't believe you trusted him

Give the Afro-Cuban a mirror
To study as he's standing by
Remind that congressman of his given name
"Beautiful" coward must comply
Somebody remind those in denial
Of their lineage to slaves
Somewhere along delusion's way
Fake christianity in play
Licking boots for a little fame
They sat down thinking seats were free
Now mired in complicity
Stupidity and insecurity
They backpedal repeatedly
Now cloaked in spin and shame

Lackeys should hear the things they say
While in underground tunnels; safe;
Chauffeured in luxury cars
Paid for with the little cash you make
That they, then, funnel to their friends
At parties thrown at your expense
But ask them to tell you your name
Die, and they don't even flinch
Useful minions slurped kool-aid
Not a single word of condolence

Didn't you learn in grade school
You take the instigator's hit?
They never answer to the shit
They manipulate you to do
So you leave your home and family
Arm yourself to the teeth
And roam around federal streets
Like a god damned fool
They throw their rocks, and hide their hands
But you throw yours, and there you stand
With your cell phone at your command
On brand new apps you post your plans
And make your threats and sick demands
And let them use you like a tool

Risking your health, life, and limb
Defending lies; supporting him
And when they haul your ass away
For crimes you thought he'd help to pay
You'll learn, for him, it's just a game
And now the world has seen your face

It's really no coincidence
He revealed you're no innocents
His bigotry swept you away
Exposed the racism in play
His pockets fattened by the day
A criminal in every way
To your children, what will you say--
Will there be recompense?
