Too often, people think you'll be mesmerized by the bones and crumbs they throw to appease you, or keep you quiet. Perhaps it was something you’d previously wanted, but were denied so vehemently that you gave up. You figured it just wouldn’t materialize.
There’s something about the weight and value of your new pursuit or wish, that suddenly makes attainable the thing you were told you had to wait for...or forget about.
Offering me something other than the thing I see and know is available--the thing that was promised--does not miraculously erase my expectation or cloud my memory. My gratitude will be performative because of home-training, but that's not an indication of satisfaction, acceptance or resignation.
Throwing bones only makes people ask, "Where's the meat?" Throwing crumbs makes you wonder what happened to the cake.

Would Walter Cronkite have said, "slapped with a lawsuit"? Does the use of language matter when you're watching the news? I wonder about viewers envisioning someone being smacked across the face with a briefcase full of legal paper.
