QUARANTINE LIFE: POETRY PROMPT---THE UNCOMFORTABLE

THE UNCOMFORTABLE

They could be living blissful lives

Abundant; wonderful

Instead, they wake each day with plans

To make yours miserable

The little joy you have, they crave

Any contentment, too

They could use their power for good

Instead they target you

Fixated, it seems they are

With anything you gain

Troubled that you have achieved

Your strength, they can’t explain

Baffled, they seek your demise

Void of humanity

What can they do to make you cry;

Increase your suffering?

What can they take, withhold, destroy

What spirit-breaking deed

Will be the straw that finally

Brings you back to your knees?

Your peace often infuriates

Those devoid of light

They scream, and shout, and instigate

Just looking for a fight

The guilt and hatred bound in them

Directs their every move

Uncomfortable, antagonistic

Purposefully cruel

Your presence is a constant look

Into their sin-sick souls

A history of heinous deeds

Of which everyone knows

They see you as their enemy

Deflect their unclean hands

Shirk all responsibility

That true remorse demands

Now, driven by their hardened hearts

They seek to wipe away

The lived, authentic narratives

That color life today

They despise the truth

Its marching causes pain and ache

Exposing lies, opening eyes

And keeping them awake

But never fear; preserve your peace

You need not take the bait

You need not answer foolishness

Meant to infuriate

Evil will destroy itself

And everything it has

Everything it wants and needs

Except, its awful past

Keep your peace, for History

And Truth will never die

Let them rage, it won’t be long

Before they cleanse their eyes

And see how they have wasted time

Wrought their own suffering

By harming the innocent

Who’ve never done a thing

To bring to their lives daily grief

That they’ve thought right and fair

They’ll not see their path led to Hell

Until they’re suffering there
