I tried to channel my inner Nathan Watts on the old Fender.
I could hear the notes. I could hum them, too. I just had a bit of trouble “seeing” them…There’s Math in the Music, you know…lol
I barely managed the first 8 notes of “I Wish”, but it was fun trying…and funny. Only in my dreams am I even remotely ready to join a band. Was I even holding it right?
I looked at the other gorgeous guitar. Too bad you can’t just pick up a Marcus Miller bass and instantly play like he does.
I know it’s never too late to learn, but I’ll just admire the beauty of the instrument, and leave the playing to the experts.
When you try a thing yourself, you know it’s possible to master over time, and with practice, but you suddenly have renewed respect and appreciation for those who put in the work, do it well, and seem to do it with ease. They not only have the look, they have the skill.
Don’t sleep on competent, committed people. You know when someone is playing AT a thing, isn’t serious, or just goofing off. It’s obvious. Mistakes and excuses are made. Productivity slows down. Time and resources are wasted. Results are poor. Mediocrity is normalized. Inspiration and interest decrease.
Excellence isn’t a bad thing. It’s worth it.
No matter what the situation, CARE. Don’t just say “that’s good enough”, if better—and even best—are within reach. Quality is wholly beneficial.
Care enough to do a thing right, or seek out and defer to those who can. Don’t envy, criticize, minimize, or hinder. Embrace every opportunity to encourage, cheer, and APPRECIATE.
