READ A BOOK DAY

You are your child's first teacher. If he or she sees you reading--and enjoying it--imagine what an incentive that would be!
Be a part of your child's success this school year. Don't visit your past failures or challenges upon them. Just because you were lousy at math word problems doesn't mean your child will be.
Tell them they can learn. Encourage and help your child to read as well as comprehend. Be an advocate, not a hindrance. Whether it's your favorite book or magazine, the back of the cereal box at breakfast, the newspaper, road signs, street signs, online remediation websites suggested by your child's teacher, or the instruction manual for a game or appliance, let your child see that you are a reader...and Reading can be fun.
