WEDNESDAY THOUGHTS : EXCELLENCE

It, whatever “it” is, isn’t excellent by accident. It’s because someone cares enough, practices, studies, rehearses, invests and re-invests enough time and resources, and wisely secures the expertise and competence necessary to make sure that “it” is excellent.

Excellence is always worth it, and isn’t always as out of reach, expensive, difficult, or ill-fitting as people think. Excellence fits anywhere.

Mediocrity, wherever it exists, is often accepted and allowed. It, in its arrogance, fights for its survival. Excuses are made FOR it. Waste occurs because of it. It’s often romanticized and conflated with humility; it grows, and becomes the unmoveable norm, when no one has the energy, knowledge, integrity, nor boldness required, to identify it as the number one hindrance to the quality that could be had and enjoyed.

It’s true. Some don’t WANT a thing to be good, or improve. Improvement is, somehow, a threat, or a personal affront. It would mean they’d have to challenge themselves, revisit their own skills, follow standards, or admit they’re out woefully of their lane, they’ve been hastily assigned, or are confused about their calling.

Perhaps, maintaining the current state of things is the best that one can do, but should they even be the one doing it? Is the only reason they’re doing it, because no one else was willing or available? Was efficiency and effectiveness rejected?

It matters, greatly, who’s making decisions. Imagine if mediocrity stepped aside, welcomed, and actually learned from others who actually know a little bit more about a thing than they do?

Instead of being intimidated and angered by excellence, shunning, questioning, shading, creating obstacles for, and fighting against it, why not embrace it, and allow a thing to thrive?

Is having the title or position EVER more important than facilitating the constructive, successful execution of a task?

The whole would be better for the championing of credibility, competence, intelligence, and expertise. “IT” (whatever "it" is) would be, too, if excellence were not the enemy.
