THURSDAY THOUGHTS: POETRY PROMPT

The silence was overwhelming

But I needed it

To collect my thoughts

Since they were unruly

And all over the place

The traffic was my friend

It slowed me down

So that I could

Make sense of what I’d seen and heard

Accept the profound sadness of

Truths too hard to face:

Some things will never be the same

Sometimes, the past is all that’s left

A brilliant mind’s subject to change

Perhaps, some secrets aren’t best kept

There simply isn’t enough time

Thoughts and prayers won’t fix it all

Ignorance can be sublime

Regret supplants a delayed call

Things aren’t always what they seem

What one sows, one surely reaps

It’s way past time to intervene

Hope dissipates when Justice sleeps
