FRIDAY THOUGHTS: POETRY PROMPT—CHOICES

“Hopeful” 8.5”x14” Ink on Paper, 2024

There's a right thing to do

It seems obvious, too

But so many are lurking around

Those so vicious; so vile

To claim your domicile

They'd burn their own house to the ground

There's a right thing to do

It seems obvious, too

But one side is betting that they

Can do and say the worst

Most offensive, perverse stuff

And you'll vote for them, anyway

There's a right thing to do

It seems obvious, too

But your eyes and ears tell you that there

Are those so mesmerized

By conspiracies; lies

When it comes to Truth

They just don't care

There's a right thing to do

It seems obvious, too

But some simply won’t do what they ought

Are they evil, or dense?

Have they no common sense?

Are they blackmailed; afraid?

Are they bought?

There's a right thing to do

It seems obvious, too

But you can't teach old evil new tricks

Some will straddle the fence

Clap for incompetence

Tarnish their own souls for politics

There’s a right thing to do

It seems obvious, too

But what’s also clear, is History

Though some aren’t going back

An unfortunate fact

Is that “back” is where fools long to be

There’s a right thing to do

It seems obvious, too

But to worry or fret, just won’t help

All a body can do

Is pray Wisdom shines through

And that Justice will revive itself
