QUARANTINE LIFE: POETRY PROMPT---OPPORTUNITIES

OPPORTUNITIES

They used to reach out

But they don’t anymore

And sadly, you understand why

It was nothing you did

But what they believed

The calls ended because of a lie

And so, you go on

Pretend nothing is wrong

But, a part of you can’t comprehend

How, with cold precision

They make their decisions;

Expel truth, but leave slander in

When your name was suggested

Someone quickly objected

You would no longer be a good fit

“Did you hear what he did?

He’s not really that good!

Is there somebody else we can get?”

“I think he’d be all wrong.”

“We just won’t get along.”

“There must be another choice”

And decisions were made

And plans were all laid

Without a dissenting voice

That won’t see your name varnished

Your reputation tarnished

Without so much as a word

With you, to find out

What the ish is about

‘Cause they know all the shade is absurd

They know what you bring to the tables you grace

But they still refuse you a chair

They know the real reasons why you’re overlooked

And who’s hoping you’ll never dine there

There’s always someone pulling the strings

Someone they seem to fear, or trust

And you won’t learn who

Until they, like you,

Find themselves under the bus

Too many times, opinions, and lies

Rumors, and gossip prevail

Too often the failure to think for oneself

Is why so many entities fail

Why relationships sever; when and wherever

There are sowers of seeds of discord

Where confusion abounds; strife can be found

And dysfunction no one can afford

You may never know all that someone has said

To affect what goes on in your life

Why you’re welcomed today,

But tomorrow, the way they behave, can cut like a knife

You may never find out what someone has done

To insure your number’s not called

Just believe, there are vast, open windows and doors

Brighter paths, to places you’ve not been before

Gateways to opportunities galore

And “THEY” don’t control them all
