QUARANTINE LIFE: FRIDAY THOUGHTS

The Mayberry church committee was given $500.00. Aunt Bee threatened Andy that if “they” voted to spend the money to repair their church's leaning foundation, instead of buying new robes, the ladies choir was going to disband.

“Our minds are made up!”, she shouted. “To stand up week in and week out, singing those beautiful hymns inspired by our Lord without proper raiment? We'd just rather not do it!”

It’s funny how we throw God in stuff to bolster our arguments.

I suppose it’s easier to do a job if you have the proper tools and uniform, but that was a bit extreme, Aunt Bee. I’m just sayin’.

It would have been a shame if the ladies choir, clad in their new robes, had to be rescued from a muddy pit after the choir loft caved in when the church slid off of its foundation. It would have been hilarious if Barney, Floyd, and Asa had been in charge of the rescue team.

What if the ladies choir had disbanded? Had they met Mayberry? There was no shortage of singers. Rafe Hollister, Jim, Gomer, and The Darling family would have made a fine praise team. They didn’t care about “rainment” and didn’t mind singing outside.

Motives drive reasoning.

Entitlement spawns delusion, and backfires.

Priorities matter.

Wise leadership is essential.

Thinking oneself indispensable is a mistake. People will call your bluff.

At some point, common sense will prevail, and what’s best for all, will supersede the short-sighted demands of a few.
