QUARANTINE LIFE: TELEVISION

The late Don Ho was singing a beautiful song on an episode of “I Dream Of Jeanie”, this morning, that really moved me. I know I’d heard it many years ago (pre-reruns), and it had the same effect. I stopped, smiled, and listened. Then I googled it. It’s called “The Days of My Youth”

It made me keenly aware that I appreciate Music… period. I have to thank my parents AGAIN for having everything from gospel, to calypso, to jazz, to rhythm and blues, to show tunes. People want to categorize, compare, compete, and put music, you, and your tastes into boxes and limit what you enjoy. It’s usually to fit their agendas, programs, plans, prejudices, and narratives. But good music is too powerful to be bound. Good music doesn’t inspire shame or cause harm. It encourages and inspires listeners and performers everywhere — indefinitely.

The Arts are so subjective. I don’t have to like what you like, and you don’t have to like what I like. Those are individual decisions based on everything from culture to exposure, to circumstances. But, good luck trying to get me to fit into narrow musical spaces that exclude the wealth of beauty, talent, and joy that is worthy of admiration, full of education, and are sources of inspiration.
