QUARANTINE LIFE: EATS

I’m reading with great interest, an NIH article about the effect of aging on tastebuds, because the best thing about the meal I bought yesterday, from a once beloved fast-food chicken restaurant, was the water.

I had many choices— better, more nutritious choices— I could have cooked, but I gave the establishment one more chance. I could almost hear my mother’s voice saying, “You don’t need to go out and spend money. You have food at home.”

Though I won’t discourage others, I know I won’t go back. The prices don’t justify the service nor the product. The fries were overcooked and cold, the green beans were dull, camouflage green, and one stir from being puréed. I could have played hockey with the biscuit. The presentation wasn’t appealing, and I vaguely remember being able to identify and differentiate chicken parts.

It used to be such a treat to go there when I was younger. The aroma used to be terrific.

What happened?
