QUARANTINE LIFE: THE TRIAL

Our moments of silence are now amended

By the minutes we didn’t see before

Suddenly, the difference between eight and nine

May as well be centuries or more

He suffered longer than we knew

All while watched in plain view

By so many whose pleas were powerless to end it

Evil proceeded as intended

Their shouting fell on deaf ears

As it has throughout countless years

When humanity takes its leave

And leaves us rivers of tears

I know they're going to try to make us think our logic has failed

After all, how many times have their defenses prevailed?

How many times have the dead been blamed for their own demise?

How many times have we been told not to believe our own eyes?

How often will rage be provoked and justice denied

How long this fight to prove the value of our own lives?

I have no expectation of justice, but should it show its face

I'll be too worn out to rejoice, but truly hope in this case

There will be some degree of grace and relief

For the loved ones left to grieve

Their son, their brother, their friend

Whose life came to a brutal end

While we all stared in disbelief

As brazen cruelty left nothing to defend
