QUARANTINE LIFE: EATS

 






I did it. It’s cold outside. It just seemed right...and I used turkey for the first time instead of chicken...and my Mother’s pot...and ladle...

All my life, gumbo was as common as breathing. It made appearances anytime, not just holidays. Both of my parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins made great gumbo. It was time consuming, so you preferred eating it as opposed to making it— but you knew how. You couldn’t help it. I’m grateful for those Louisiana natives who knew how to “make do” with what they had, and determined that hunger was not an option...
