QUARANTINE LIFE: LONGEVITY

My only living uncle, who is the reason I love popcorn, is 93 today.
I phoned him and sang Happy Birthday. Hearing that rapid fire speech; that "How you doin', Baby?" in a drawl only found in Louisiana, made me smile.
He mused about living longer than all of his siblings and friends. "Everybody my age is gone"; how he’s using a walker and a wheelchair now, but isn’t in any pain when he's sitting, and how, people aren’t taking “the virus” seriously. Apparently, some local politician went to a party without a mask, and now he has "it". "He shoulda known better!"

He asked if I was watching the election returns, because he wasn't planning to "stay up all night". "You think we gonna know something tonight?" I confessed I was watching “The Odd Couple” as a distraction, and had been watching old movies all day. “I don't believe we gonna know until in the morning. What’s gonna happen is gonna happen”, he said, then laughed that he wouldn’t be surprised if 45 wins, but he wasn’t going to worry about it. “I'm gonna sleep good.”

As our call came to a close, I told him how good it was to hear his voice, and that I loved him. He said, “I love you, too. You be good, and don’t let nobody make a fool out you, Baby.”

I think I’ll pop some popcorn. 🙂
