QUARANTINE LIFE: POETRY PROMPT---HERE WE ARE

HERE WE ARE

Is the decision fair?

I don’t think so

We’ve been let down before

Yet, here we are

They argue well

Their denial deep-seated

Their excuses repeated

How they’ve been mistreated

Their privilege defeated

Yet, here we are

 Is their fear innate?

I don't know

Our hearts have sunk before

Yet, here we are

They come and go

Their supremacy weakening

Their ignorance leaking

Their incompetence blaring

Their weary eyes staring

Yet, here we are

Is the calm for real?

I think so

Our prayers have never slowed

And here we are

They never know

Why their riches won't soothe them

Why their schemes fail, and bruise them

Why their bigotry mars them

Why their racism scars them

Yet, here we are

Is the threat a game?

Maybe so

It is-- until they're caught

And there they are

Their remorse spilling

Their backstories chilling

Their excuses, abundant

Their anger, redundant

But here we are

And here, we will remain
